The President of Chile inaugurates the Hospital of Maipu

■ The 70,000 m² and 375-bed hospital shall provide care services to more than 1 million citizens from Maipu and Cerrillos

■ Sebastián Piñera highlighted that both hospitals developed and under the operation of SANJOSE for the following 15 years are state-of-the-art hospitals and have nothing to envy to other hospitals worldwide

The President of the Republic of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, and the Minister of Public Works, Loreto Silva, as well as by several local authorities and directors of SANJOSE inaugurated last 7^th December the new El Carmen Dr. Luis Ferrada Hospital of Maipu.

This hospital, as well as the Hospital of La Florida inaugurated last week, has been executed y Grupo SANJOSE who shall be responsible for its operation during the following 15 years, including all services with the exception of care assistance.

The new health infrastructure, with more than 70,000 m² of surface, is provided with 375 beds, 72 boxes, 11 pavilions, 6 delivery rooms and state-of-the-art technology equipment. In addition to the 25 medical specialities and the emergency units, the hospital is of an educational assistance.

The Head of the State is proud of the work delivered by SANJOSE, and emphasized that “this hospital and the recently inaugurated Hospital of La Florida are the first two hospitals to be executed in Santiago de Chile for the last 11 years. We have delivered in the last two weeks to state-of-the-art hospitals which have nothing to envy to other hospitals in Chile or worldwide.”

Focusing on the new hospital of Maipu, he highlighted the fact that”it will have all medical specialities and its 375 beds will fill a significant gap in Santiago de Chile”.

In his speech he emphasized that this hospital along with La Florida, "are the only two hospitals in Latin America that have telemedicine and teleradiology. And, therefore, they can connect to any hospital in the world to share and discuss the diagnosis and, consequently, improve the therapeutic capacity of this hospital”.

Similarly, he emphasized that the site has a number of innovations that will serve the people, "such as an automatic medication dispenser, pavilions with CCTV so that other doctors can observe how patients are being operated on, automatic opening and closing doors in order to maintain cleanliness and prevent all kind of infections.”

Finally, he highlighted the importance of new technologies: “It will be the first fully computerised hospital, that is, a paperless hospital where people will be able to take their exams and these will be available instantly, without bureaucracy, without paperwork, without any delay".
